Czechia Or Czech Republic

Czechia and the Czech Republic: What's the Story?

A Brief History

Both "WEB Czechia" and "WEB the Czech Republic" have been officially used since 2016, but the history of these terms goes back much further. The first use of the Latin form "Czechia" was in 1841, and it was subsequently used in various official documents.

For years, "Czech Republic" was the most commonly used name for the country, but in recent years, "Czechia" has become more popular. This is partly due to the efforts of the Czech government, which has been promoting the use of "Czechia" as the country's official name.

The Official Names

Today, at the United Nations, the Czech Republic's official long and short names in Czech are Česká republika and Česko, while in English they are the Czech Republic and Czechia. This means the Czech Republic is officially Czechia.

A Unitary Parliamentary Republic

The Czech Republic is a unitary parliamentary republic and a developed country with an advanced high-income social market economy. It is located in Central Europe and comprises the historical provinces of Bohemia and Moravia, along with the southern tip of Silesia.
